Tumi Makgetla is a political scientist whose work deals primarily with political accountability and party competition, especially in the context of African politics.  Her research interests include the political economy of development, youth unemployment politics and policy, female labor force participation and business ethics. She holds a PhD from Yale University in political science, an MPhil in Politics: Comparative Government from Oxford and an undergraduate degree in Social Studies from Harvard. Prior to completing her PhD, she worked as a journalist in South Africa, in the national government of South Africa and as a researcher at the Innovations for Successful Societies program at Princeton. She has conducted research in Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Mozambique, Indonesia, Tanzania and Albania.
