Shanique Reid

Shanique graduated with honors from the University of Hartford, earning a B.A. in Communications with a minor in Africana Studies. Prior to joining Yale, she was the Manager of Advocacy and Organizing at Planned Parenthood of Southern New England, spearheading legislative and grassroots advocacy efforts in Connecticut and Rhode Island, advancing reproductive rights and access in both states.
 

Shanique has also served as a Global Youth Ambassador for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, leading research that investigated disparities in sex education accessibility for deaf youth and partnering with Reach A Hand Uganda to support the implementation of peer-led programs promoting sexual reproductive health and rights for disabled youth in the country.
 

Currently, Shanique is a Thomas R. Pickering Fellow. At Yale, her academic interests lie in the exploration of cultural festivals as embodiments of collective memory and expressions of rebellion, as well as delving into the realm of afro futurism.”
