Paul’s work brings the Hebrew Bible, Ancient Near East and African History and literature together in an interdisciplinary fashion to create new ways of thinking about the Hebrew Bible and its place in contemporary societies.

His current thematic interests sit at the interplay between warfare, exile and imperialism, mainly in the Hebrew Bible and Ancient Near Eastern textual and iconographic depictions of ancient Israel’s social, economic, and religious life in the shadow of empire (Assyria, Babylonia, and Persia), while also comparing these to African narratives of colonization, conflict-induced displacements, and transnational migration.

He holds a Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary, GA and a Master of Arts in Religion from Yale University Divinity school, CT.
