Visiting Professor

Professor Helen Yitah is a Rice Visiting Fellow at the Macmillan Center for 2023-24. She is the immediate past Dean of the School of Languages and former Head of the Department of English at the University of Ghana. She holds BA and MPhil. degrees from the University of Ghana and a PhD from the University of South Carolina, Columbia. A professor of literature, she has worked on West African feminist theory, Ghanaian women’s literature and children’s literature, among other areas.  Her recent work includes Philosophical Foundations of the Humanities through Postcolonial Perspectives, for which she is lead editor with Helen Lauer as co-editor (Brill Publishers, spring 2018), and After the CeremoniesNew and Selected Poems by Ama Ata Aidoo (Edited and with a Foreword, University of Nebraska Press, 2017). Prof. Yitah is a Fellow and the Honorary Secretary of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.
