CAS Graduate Affiliates Network

The Council on African Studies Graduate Student Affiliates Network seeks to strengthen the graduate student community by supporting opportunities for academic exchange and social events. We seek to foster an engaging, interdisciplinary community of students working in fields related to Africa. The network includes students from various Graduate School of Arts & Science departments and the Professional Schools.

The CAS affiliates network supports the Graduate Working Group, a monthly forum for students to present research in progress and provides funding for students to present at professional conferences as well as travel to conduct research as part of their academic development. Recently, for example, the network supported two students from the History of Art and African American Studies Departments who traveled to Johannesburg to research and interview women in the South African Keiskamma Art Project. It also funded a student to present at the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies conference. Her research focused on the impact of displacement from the ongoing conflict in norther Mozambique on young internally displaced adults’ vulnerability to HIV.
