The Council on African Studies Graduate Student Affiliates Network seeks to strengthen the graduate student community by supporting opportunities for academic exchange and social events. We seek to foster an engaging, interdisciplinary community of students working in fields related to Africa. The network includes students from various Graduate School of Arts & Science departments and the Professional Schools.
The CAS affiliates network supports the Graduate Working Group, a monthly forum for students to present research in progress, and provides funding for students to present at professional conferences as well as travel to conduct research as part of their academic development. In 2018-19, for example, the network supported students who presented papers at the Society of Gynecology Cancer International Meeting and the World Agroforestry Congress. It also funded Forestry & Environmental Science students who conducted research in Kenya and Uganda on Environmental Implications of Chinese-Funded Infrastructure in East Africa and in Zambia on social governance of Chinese overseas investment impacts.
